Ecosystems
This week we will be studying Ecosystems. Ecosystems are where animals live and how they live. We will be discussing the six main types of biomes, which are groups of ecosystems. They are tundra, desert, grassland, tropical rainforest, decidous forest, and coniferous forest. This website will give you information on the biomes.
The next site is one of my favorites! It is the Magic School Bus Website. Here you can play games, watch video clips, and even take an animal tour. Make sure to play the game where you match the animal to its habitat.
This next site has a bunch of fun games that will help your child learn more about biomes. The first game is determining which animals live in the Grassland, and then making a food chain. There is also the Biome Challenge game. Have fun at this site!

Measuring Up!
This week we will be practicing our measuring skills. We will be measuring in Centimeters. In the beginning of the week we will start out with whole numbers only. Towards the end of the end of the week will move on to decimals but only in increments of .5. For example 3.5, so on the game please don’t go above Medium Centimeters. I found an excellent site that helps the students practice their measuring skills.
During our measurement unit we will also be measuring weight. At this site you and your child can weigh different animals in different units. The goal is to match the weight in two different units. Level 1 is what we will be working with.
This last site is a great wrap up site for our measurement unit. It has word search puzzles, riddles, hidden pictures, and interesting facts about metrics. This is a great site you can share with your child. It even has a metric chocolate chip cookie recipe! Yum!

Be Bright!
This week we are continuing to learn about outer space. However, this week we will be learning about the sun. I found a great website that teaches children about how to stay safe from the sun. Here they get to dress paper dolls in appropriate clothes for going outside in the sun. They also get to learn about sunscreen and more. I hope this will help you keep your family safe from the sun!
Another great site has great information on the sun. It also has a place to calculate what your weight would be on the sun.
I also found another great website that even has a song about the sun. This site has many great facts and even has a quiz about the sun.
Also be sure to check out the site we used last week for the solar system website we used last week. It has a great section on the sun and another song that you can hear on this site.

Out of this World!
This week we are learning about the Solar System. There are some great sites with some fun games for you and your child to play together. One great site which has great information on all of the planets is http://www.kidsastronomy.com/solar_system.htm
Here you can even create your own solar system. This would be a great site to help you and your child with the take home project this month.
A great way to learn is to learn while playing a game. At the Planet Pursuit Game you get to guide a rocket to the planets while dodging asteroids. Once you arrive at the planet you must correctly answer a question about that planet to get a probe. You must get 5 probes to complete your mission. Have a BLAST!
Another great way for the kids to learn is by playing matching games. I found a great site that has many different types of solar systems matching games. One matching game even talks! Scroll down to the section that says solar system and the nine planets. Even though Pluto is no longer a planet, it is a dwarf planet, so please remind your child of this! Have fun matching!

Dear Parents,
Welcome! This website will be a great connection between home and school. Here you can learn what your child is learning in school. You will also be able to go to great websites with your child to further their learning. I hope you find this another way to spend time with your child, and help them learn along the way.
